Featured Race---Outdoor Inc. Canoe and Kayak Race-Memphis

This Saturday, the Outdoor Incorporated Canoe and Kayak Race will take place in historical and storied Memphis, Tennessee.

The well-attended (over 200 competitors) event is one of the longest standing kayak races in the country and boasts an "A" list of attendees over the years such as:

  • Oscar Chalupsky-12 Molokai Winner, Multi-Time World Surfski Series Champion
  • Greg Barton-Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, US. Surfski Champion
  • Mike Herbert-Pan American Champion, Olympian and Bear Wrestler extraordinaire.
  • Hermann Chalupsky-World Surfski Series Champion and Molokai Winner
  • Ekaitz Sayes -European Champion (U-23)

as well as a host of others, including top local regional paddlers.

The race itself is characteristically southern; as far as paddle races go. Taking place on the fast flowing Mighty Mississippi River, the course is a one-option only 5k balls-to-the-wall sprint downriver.

Of course, all manner of paddlers show-up fo the challenge.  Making the feel of the race a bit of celebration on the water. No big water needed, just good times for all.

Afterwards, racers will convene at the finish area for live music, food, beer and revelry.

As a bonus, participants can enjoy visiting the uniquely southern city while in town.  Memphis is renowned for barbecue, blues, Elvis and true southern history.

Newcomers can make a trip to Elvis Presley's Graceland, walk through the birthplace of the blues-Beale Street, or tour the downtown riverfront area to enjoy the many sights and eateries available.
